Rumor Has It...

Eduard von Bittermagen and his friend Professor Pfiff, indulge in an amusing hobby. They take every opportunity to bet on anything. Their latest bet: Bittermagen claims that his nephew Tommi, a young rascal and the Professor's young daughter Julia will become a couple although the two are actually not crazy about each other. Of course, Pfiff bets against it. But then Bittermagen uses a macabre trick. He acts as if his last hour had come and summons Tommi and Julia to his "deathbed". He offers his immense heritage to both of them-if they solve a problem.

Anna and Marie are two women who could possibly love each other. Marie wants to be open to this new overwhelming feeling, even if she has to throw away all that she has ever held to be right. Anna on the other hand, enjoys the attention from this gentle soft girl Marie, who seems to love her, not in spite of but also because of her sharp edges. It could all be so easy if it weren't for Zoe, the woman who has been at Anna's side for years.

In Over the Garden Wall, a working class couple (Jimmy James and Norman Evans) are planning to give their only daughter and their new GI son-in-law a right Northern welcome. As always, though, riotous trouble starts to flare up when a young man starts to flirt with James and Evans's daughter!

Carol feels, for whatever reason, that her husband, John, has grown indifferent to her, and is on a quest to find out why, suspecting another woman. She sees the family physician, Dr. Swope, first and then hires a private detective. Her own sleuthing is more effective and she devises a plan; having long been pursued by Eric, she apparently accedes and accompanies him to an apartment and, per her plan, enter the wrong one. There, they find Carol's best friend, Charlotte, and John hiding in a closet. The latter, showing more nerve than good sense, goes into a rage and berates Carol for her apparent philandering. The battle continues at home, where their daughter Janet informs them that because of them, she and Paul have given up on the idea of marriage, but are going away together, anyway. Carol and John trail them to a hotel and find them in twin beds, whereupon John, armed with a fire-ax, summons a justice of the peace and demands a fire-ax version of a shotgun wedding.

Desperate to get back to New York, Rachel Carver strikes a deal with her family's sworn enemy, business superstar Jacob Rush. However, their families' bitter rivalry threatens to derail everything.
