Mangalya Bhagyam

A young woman, unable to handle the stress of raising a family, runs out on her husband and young daughter. 12 years later, she returns in hopes of rekindling a bond with them.

Based on a true story, this short film introduces us to a young student, in the 70's Romania, that, having finally finished her semester, and with a fantastic performance, hurries anxiously to get back home, where her sick mother awaits her.

11-year-old Akeelah Anderson has a way with words. After winning her schoolwide spelling bee, she decides to enter the competition, despite her classmates' derision and the antipathy of her mother Tanya. Thanks to the efforts of her teacher Dr. Larabee, she reaches the finals. As she gets to know her fellow competitors, Akeelah realizes that coming first isn't everything in life.

A musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic ghost tale starring Albert Finney.
