When the Raja of Jhansi dies, the British place harsh conditions before letting the Raja's son, Gangadhar, take over the throne. Jhansi's Rajguru plans ahead by getting a young girl, Manu, from a neighbouring kingdom to marry Gangadhar, despite their age difference. Manu is anointed the Rani of Jhansi and her name is changed to Laxmibai (Kashish). She soon gets pregnant but the newborn child dies a few months later. Bereft, Gangadhar's health begins to fail. With no hope of a natural heir to the kingdom, Gangadhar and Laxmibai adopt a young boy, Diwakar. When Gangadhar dies, Laxmibai attempts to have Diwakar anointed the Raja. However, the British object and soon declare war on Jhansi. How Laxmibai joins forces with Tatya Tope and fights the British to death iforms the rest of the film.

Film Specialist Chakra D. Dhari lives a poor lifestyle in a flat in Mumbai, is unable to pay his rent, but is determined to make a Bollywood movie at any and all costs. He manages to con Tiku, a Japan-based businessman, to finance a film, on the condition that the movie is produced by yesteryear heroine, Barkharani. That done, Chakra goes about recruiting a lead actor, a photographer, a dance director as well as a former beauty queen, Yukta Mookhey, and an established South Indian actress, Sana Shaikh, and takes them on location to Japan. Chakra will soon find out that his entire cast and crew have not only a secret agenda of their own, but the work on the movie will soon also be hampered by the presence of gangsters.

The main protagonist is Chander, a tourist photographer in the Indian city of Nainital who lives with his parents (played by Alok Nath and Kanu Gill) and best friend Johnny (played by Sanjay Narvekar). She agrees to be with him, despite objections from her guardians, her uncle (played by (Tej Sapru) and aunt (played by Himani Shivpuri) who had other plans for her. From there her career as a star begins under a new name, Garima.
