The film depicts the French occupation of the Mediterranean city of Kahramanmaraş in Turkey during World War I and the resistance of the Maraş people against this occupation.

The film tells the love story between the daughter of a pasha and a young hafiz. Yusuf is born from the relationship between Adil Pasha's driver and his concubine. After his birth, his mother dies and his father is expelled from the mansion by Adil Pasha. Years later, Yusuf becomes one of the most important hafız in Istanbul. When his fame reaches Adil Pasha's ears, Yusuf is taken to the mansion to give music lessons to the Pasha's daughters. Meanwhile, the Pasha is preparing to marry his daughter Handan to his aide Necip. However, the marriage does not take place due to Handan's insistence, as she is in love with Yusuf. Necip, who discovers the relationship between the two, plots to expel Yusuf from the mansion.
