Who is he - Leo Tolstoy? The film, based on Tolstoy's diary and his photographs, plunges into Tolstoy's special, borderless dialogue with himself and with the world, which does not end, as he believed, with death. However, it will not be possible to see Tolstoy himself - he is given only in reflections: in photographs and in the perception of other people.

The film takes place in the late 90s. The main character undertakes to organize a competition for young musicians. Who should become the winner of the competition, decided in advance. The performances are attended by unknown musicians representing a variety of musical genres and trends. They have different views on both life and music. Of course, the competition does not go as planned.

On August 24, 1981, the newlyweds Larisa and Vladimir Savitsky stepped on board the plane following the flight Komsomolsk-on-Amur - Blagoveshchensk. 30 minutes before landing, the civilian aircraft AN-24 collided with another aircraft and broke into pieces at an altitude of more than 5 kilometers above the ground. No one was supposed to survive ... but a miracle happened. Larisa Savitskaya woke up in the middle of the wreckage of the plane in the impenetrable taiga. Now she herself had to create a real miracle, which only a strong-minded person is capable of.

Only Andrey does not give up - day after day he fosters his sick mother, saves money and compiles documents to take her to Germany for treatment. But the fate is merciless to the main character - his mom dies the day before the departure - Andrey's world turned upside down - He hits the road to talk to his sister, to look into his father's eyes, to understand himself... "The Son" is a parable, a dream. The film is based upon a simple story about complicated relationships between a son and his parents and, what is most important, with himself. The relationships that end in tragic outcome.
