Like every morning, Linda sits at the breakfast table with her children. But there's a catch: Dad hasn't been sitting at the table with his family for a long time. Instead, Fritz is sleeping in the camper van in the garden. While Linda hopes that the two of them will soon find their way back to each other, all signs point to separation for Fritz.

Jana Friedrich is a young, dedicated doctor from the provinces who is completing her specialist training as a forensic pathologist when she is offered an internship at a renowned Hamburg institute of forensic medicine. A dream comes true for her. An internship with her great role model Kurt Bremer, a luminary in his field. Jana has read all his books. She knows that working in this field is not an ongoing murder mystery. But she is shocked when she is confronted with various cases of abused children instead of exciting criminal cases. Jana soon experiences first-hand how difficult it is to bring those responsible to justice and to remove the children from their tormentors. When she and her mentor even fail in court, despite the death of an infant, she decides to take a more active role and get involved.

It's no surprise when Karo is fired. She is loud, over-emotional and egocentric, more so than the average Berliner wise-ass, says her best friend Anna. Karo is not one to give up easily, though: she opts for radical change and goes into therapy. Although her therapist advises her to keep calm, Karo throws herself into it.

Thanks to her fellow student Andrea, the shy student quickly finds a connection. She moves into a WG and is confronted with the left scene, the rebels of the 1970s. This fits in with her inner life, because she has to distract herself mentally from her father - a conservative entrepreneur, for Bea the epitome of the capitalist. So she becomes a radical rebel.

Despite being 45, Werner still likes putting on the style and enjoys being a womanizer, who usually ends up in bed with the female guests that stay at the hostel in which he temporarily works. But then, Werner has to learn to take on responsibility. When he was 18, he and his former girlfriend Tine, had a daughter called Julia, who is a mother herself now. Whenever she is in desperate need of a babysitter, she approaches Werner, who then grudgingly accepts. But Werner has discovered that this new "job" is a real godsend, as when he takes his granddaughter to the playground, he is a great hit with the ladies. He especially likes Kathie, who comes there with her little son Finn. Of course, he can't let her know that he is a granddad and so he says that he is Zora's father… and to Julia's surprise - but also joy - he wants to babysit Zora as often as possible.

Donato fails in his attempt to save a drowning man, and meets one of the man's friends. He decides to start his life over, but pieces of his past keep coming after him.

The phone call from Sybille was usual. Her family didn't even know that this call just started their last fine day...
