A Christian boy and a Muslim girl fall in a forbidden love in the town of Komotini. They decide to escape together, but the Turkish consul has another opinion.

Chief Constable Kostas is a law enforcement officer who does his job properly. That's what he believes, not realizing that the world has changed and bribery and kickbacks are now the law. With this mindset, he is unable to support his wife, Nitsa, and is constantly criticized by his dynamic mother-in-law, Katina. In his efforts to do his duty, he constantly makes one blunder after another. Eventually, he is kicked out of the police force...

At the Presidential Mansion news arrives every day indicating that things in the country are going from bad to worse. The President summons all the political leaders in order to understand exactly what is happening; and yet no one can enlighten him. He decides to act. He calls two journalists and assigns them the task of investigating the matter by speaking directly with ordinary people. The investigation starts with the notorious Gypsy Tamtakos, who struggles every day for a living. Then they move on to a simple employee, Markos, who dreams of a raise -which never comes. Then it's a farmer, Thymios, who comes to the capital to sell his oranges. In a largely burlesque manner, the film more or less reveals that the entire misfortune is due to Greeks' laziness and apathy, as well as to the prevailing attitude of "no big deal".

In a small village, the women seize power and command the men for an entire day. Bent on abolishing this old custom, ardent males resort to a radical solution on the eve of the momentous event. When will men realise war is not the answer?

A young woman arrives in Athens with her dog after the death of her father, the head of a bouzouki band that broke up because television took away their work. She settles in the humble home of a friend, who is married to a petty crook, and looks for work. At some point, she meets a blind student and a mutual attraction develops between them, which blossoms into love.

A lively countryman arrives in Athens in search of a better future, only to find himself entangled in the well-orchestrated scheme of a notorious thief who is his spitting image. Will he manage to get out of the tight spot?
