The last of three animated films about the history of the exploited underclass in the Nordic countries through the ages. The first two were "Trællene" (1978) and "Trællenes oprør" (1979).

Little Virgil lives in a henhouse with his best friend Oscar, a one-legged rooster. Virgil's worst enemy is Orla, the local bully-boy. When a circus comes to town, Virgil hires on as the Human Cannonball's apprentice. The role is a perfect fit, and ugly, evil Orla finally gets his comeuppance.

From a working class coming-of-age novel, Morten Arnfred fashioned his feature film to recapture the feel, the sting, the pain, but also the spirit of solidarity of the 1950s in the metropolitan city of Copenhagen: at the center, young Johnny, helpless, hapless, happy, unhappy, going through the motions of growing up. It has hardly been seen before that a 83-year-old actor has starred in a Danish film, but it is the case here, where Kai Holm says goodbye to a long life in film and theater service. He plays an old peasant who on his deathbed is waiting for his son (Jon Bang Carlsen). In a few days he relives the village life, he comes from, and which was marked by a hard and authoritarian upbringing. He is at his father's deathbed despair because it is still impossible to make contact, and in a crisis situation, he recognizes his father's brutality in itself. The film draws a bitter picture of human relationships where dreams while they die, degenerates into power relations.

Steffen is a good kid, a teenager who has recently finished school and is looking for work. He lives with his widowed mother, a newspaper reporter.
