1941 and the war culminates. The wife of a lieutenant and a sergeant fall madly in love. Times and circumstances -military service, marriage, friendship between the two men- forbid this love, but do not negate it. When the lieutenant is injured and taken to hospital, the two lovers, against all odds, dare the only possible way out: he defects, she leaves her husband, and they begin a journey without return towards the border.

When a man decides to marry the woman he's been living with, she stops being the silent patient person she was and claims to be the boss in the house. Her behaviour changes so much after the marriage that the husband gets so irritated as to ask for a divorce even a few hours later..

Two pickpockets get involved in a bank robbery organized by an American, at the urging of a colleague. Dissatisfied with the division of the loot, they confess their crime to the priest and the police officer. In the end, the perpetrators are arrested and the poor devils have a chance to earn their bread honestly.

This film is a social comment of the times, exploring issues that centre around relationships and what was allowed and what was not allowed at the time (early 60s) in Greece. There are sub-plots also, mainly relating to the life of the poor city dwellers, social injustice and seeming double standards. Aliki Vougiouklaki is a poor young girl dreaming of a better life and the "handsome prince on a white stallion" who will deliver her from her miserable existence. She meets and falls in love with a young man (Nikos Kourkoulos) who also falls in love with her, but things are not as simple as they first seem. His past comes to haunt them with tragic consequences. Vassilis Diamantopoulos is excellent as the half-crazed old captain whose life strangely echoes that of young Aliki.

A young actress who is about to star in a play by the writer Palla stays at the home of Pavlos, an actress who was left paralysed shortly before performing in Palla's play "The Red Cloak." The young actress is found murdered, and a police officer conducts a thorough investigation to find the culprit.

After returning from a masquerade, much to his surprise, a wandering textile salesman stumbles upon an abandoned and helpless baby. Will he find his parents--and if not--will the poor child finally find a loving foster family?
