The shrill and tragic story about an event that involved Count Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy. In an infantry regiment of the military based in the Tula region an offence occurs. In this regiment, the capital’s lieutenant Grigory Kolokoltsev — inspired by progressive ideas — does his service. A military tribunal and execution await the soldier charged with the offence. Kolokoltsev asks Count Tolstoy for help — and he decides to protect the innocent man. The pointed history about the complexity of choice and fidelity to one’s ideals is based on real events.

Imagine a mix of Repo Man, Oliver! and Pinocchio and you're on the road to grasping the tone of this bizarre Estonian take on Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy's character Buratino, a wooden boy (or boyus woodenus, as the doctors in the film refer to him). Buratino's virginal mother wishes upon a star for a son and is immediately answered by what can only be called a rape-splinter. The woman gives birth almost immediately to her little wooden Buratino.

One day the king decided to train his army in a new formation. And for this, he discharged General and boyar Vasily from a neighboring country. Except they got lost somewhere along the way. I had to call a soldier for help to find them. and on the way, the following happened to the soldier: he met an old man whose cart was stuck in a ditch. The soldier helped pull out the cart. In gratitude, the old man, saying goodbye, advised the soldier to ask the king for an old military satchel...

It shows the life of a man who lost his memory after a car accident. It's like a person is being reborn. But the new life does not bring happiness to the hero. Well-mannered, with good manners, he asks his friend, "What kind of person was I?" And gets an answer: "You were a heavy drinker." All the hero's attempts to establish contact with the world around him end in failure, and the final scene is very dramatic.
