Boris Pavlovich Raisky, a bored Petersburg aesthet, comes to his family estate in a small town on the Volga. He hoped to find boredom and the faint-hearted provincials there, and did not expect that in the outback he was waiting for real life, dramatic love and serious passions. Boris Raisky’s estate is a blessed corner where everything pleases the eye: a native old house, tender greenery of birches and lindens, a silver strip of the Volga in the distance. And only a mysterious precipice at the end of the garden frightens the inhabitants of the estate. According to legend, at the bottom of it in ancient times, a jealous husband killed his wife and rival. “Precipice” is a symbolic word in the fate of the main character Vera. It fell to her to fall in love with a nihilist and a cynic who preaches "love for a term", painfully choose between feeling and duty, finally, go down to her beloved person in a cliff, cut off everything that connected with her former life...

1921. Three seemingly unrelated terrible events took place in a provincial Siberian town. But Chekist Kamchatov is convinced that there are links between the murders and, moreover, that in the last case, the suicide of a young security guard was, in his opinion, clearly staged...

The movie intertwines the plot lines of the stories "In the Bathhouse", "Tears Invisible to the World", "A Conversation between a Man and a Dog" and others. By the will of the film's creators, the viewer gets to the rehearsals of an unusual choir and gets acquainted with the stories of the singers - diverse, but invariably amusing.

On 20th of April 1945 the Soviet army launches its attack on Berlin. The end has come for Nazi Germany and Hitler decides to commit suicide. In Prague K.H. Frank (Nazi Secretary of State and Chief of police in the Protectorate of Bohemia a Moravia) discusses with his commanders how to transform the city into an impregnable fortress, but the Praguers do not intend to wait any longer. From the early hours of 4th of May people start assembling in the streets and tearing down German signs. On the next day, the 5th of May, the uprising begins.

Muscovite Sasha Trofimov returns home after serving in the army. In the absence of his father, his uncle, who works as a photographer, helps him decide on his profession. He takes the boy on as an intern, meaning that he will follow in his footsteps. Sasha, who has shown a great interest in photography, does not like his mentor's way of life very much, and he seriously thinks about "what to do?".

The returning soldier Kuzma Kadkin on the train tells how well he lived before the war, and that everyone in the area knows him. An accidental fellow traveler, a young mother, leaves her child, a one and a half year old boy, Kadkin, to run away at the junction for water, but lags behind the train. Kuzma has no choice but to bring the baby home...

During the holidays, Aslan meets an old geologist Petrovich, who lived and worked in these places before the war. Here he left a bag with the only photo of his family, who died during the war. Aslan helps Petrovich find the people who have been carefully storing the bag with the photo all this time.

In the autumn of 1943, a factory school was set up in one of the rear towns to train turners. Teenagers evacuated from different cities who lost their parents during the war study and work here. The boys are helping the front with their selfless work...
