The River Breathes

One day a young Brazilian man living in Japan crashes his car into the side of the house of a happy family. They take him in after realizing he had been beaten. As they get to know each other they find the bonds of family transcend blood and lineage.

Maeno Ryotaku (Kataoka Ainosuke) is a doctor of Buzen Province, Nakatsu domain. Aspiring to learn Western knowledge, he comes across a Dutch-language translation of the German medical text Anatomische Tabellen while studying in Nagasaki. After returning from Nagasaki, Maeno is invited by a doctor friend Sugita Genpaku (Niiro Shinya) of Wakasa Province, Obama domain to observe an autopsy.

It has been 100 years since the Battle of Sekigahara. The Nagatsuno domain and Koyama domain at the southern edge of Tohoku have been at odds for a long time. Soya Danjo , the Nagatsuno domain’s chief retainer, keeps invading and plundering the Koyama domain. His deeds trouble his sister Akane. One day, a young boy from the Koyama domain is covered with injuries after being attacked by an unknown monster. He escapes to a Nagatsuno village and is brought to Akane by the wandering samurai Sakakida Soei. The approaching monster strikes fear. Together with Sakakida and painter Kikuchi Enshu, Akane musters wit and courage to fight against the monster and uncover the mystery of its birth in order to protect her people.

A police detective Shoukokuji Ryuuya from the first section of Metropolitan Police Department is tasked to investigate the murder case of a woman which takes place at a grand party held by a big-time actress but faces the hurdle of finding the true culprit among the large pool of suspects.

After Tamiko Kazami's husband passes away, she works their dairy farm. People around her oppose her, but she places her cattle out to pasture which her late husband insisted. Tamiko's situation is not very good. Her father-in-law's chronic disease gets worse and she must do all the labor by herself. One night, a man comes to stay the night because of a broken bike. Tamiko asks him "Please work here."
