Patricia O'Rourke, a good-natured prankster who works as a copy girl for the Sentinel , angers her co-worker Stubbs and is about to lose her job when the managing editor offers her one more chance. Her assignment is to explain the clue that links the Hope Mission, a derelict home run by millionaire Hunter Mason and his secretary, Monty Latham, with a series of local robberies. Henri Le Rocque's arrival in an island village causes much anger when he insists upon advanced rental for the land he owns. Accompanying Le Rocque is his nephew Paul, who is recovering from a broken heart. One day, little flower girl Fleurette visits the Le Rocque estate to make a present of a rare flower and is shot as a trespasser. She is nursed back to health at the mansion, and Paul falls in love with her. However, trouble is brewing in the village which will endanger all their lives.

Leaving his wife Rose for a few weeks and eager to do research for his new novel about the elderly, Henry Norman goes to live in a home for the aged, where Blossom, the home's young maid, falls in love with him. Molly is an irrepressible young lady who decamps from her grandmother's farm where she learns of the dire poverty with which they are threatened. Coming to the city, she seeks a position and failing to find one, hits upon the scheme of writing letters to invalids for the purpose of cheering them along the road to recovery. It so happens that her only subscriber is Carl Stanton, in whom she has already taken a violent interest. Carl is totally ignorant of the identity of his little correspondent until matters reach a climax which brings about a revelation of the fact that it is none other than Molly.
