This revealing documentary from director Philippe Kohly examines the storied life of renowned soprano Maria Callas, from her troubled childhood in New York City to her scandal-laden but triumphant international career in opera. Featuring archival interviews with Callas herself and footage of contemporaries such as her lover Aristotle Onassis, this celebration of "La Divina" pays tribute to her enduring legacy some three decades after her death.

Palermo is home to a gigantic theater building: the Teatro Massimo - the largest theater in the world. The writer Isidor Gondlowitz sets off from his home country, Switzerland, to write a book about this impressive place. Although the theater is intact and playable, it is not being used. Gondlowitz tries out all the roles on and behind the stage and begins to lose himself more and more in the huge building and in acting.

Maria Callas sang in London for the first time in over eight years, and BBC cameras were in the Royal Festival Hall, London, for the occasion. She shares the programme with distinguished Sicilian tenor Giuseppe di Stefano, and they are accompanied by Ivor Newton on the piano.

A famous tenor pawns valuables too often. His strange behavior arouses the suspicions of a detective. The situation is complicated by the fact that both the tenor and the detective are in love with the same woman. Attempts at infidelity, revenge, and spying ensue. In the end, love conquers all.
