On a Saturday night in Istanbul, despite the pleas of his fiancée, cynical Alper refuses to join the anti-government protests happening on his doorstep. He just wants to stay home for his weekly dose of poker, played with his regular crew of high-school friends. Alper's game is threatened as his friends set off on a series of passionate, and at times ill-thought-out, squabbles on whether they should join the demonstrations or not.

Sedat and Fikret, childhood friends, are devoted to the Kadırga Sports Club. The Kadırga Sports Club, a poor club, wants to transfer a footballer named Hakan as a savior. Tevfik Amca, a former member of the club, donates his car for the transfer, but time is needed to sell the car, and the transfer date is approaching, so the sale cannot be delayed. In this situation, Sedat asks for the money from Reşat, the brother of his ex-girlfriend Nazlı. Sedat receives the money in exchange for a promissory note, but during this time, an unexpected situation arises, and he is forced to confront many people.

Two historical incidents that deepened the friendship between Japan and Turkey are connected in this story of friendship and compassion: In the night of 16 September 1890 the Turkish frigate Ertuğrul is caught up in a typhoon and sinks off the Japanese coast. Risking their own lives, local villagers are able to rescue 69 Turkish sailors. Although being very poor and having hardly to eat, the villagers share what little they have with strangers from a country 9,000 kilometers away. 95 years later, during the Iran-Iraq War, more than 300 Japanese are stranded in Tehran. In the morning of 19 March 1985 a Turkish Airlines aircraft takes off for Tehran to evacuate the Japanese. But the remaining Turks at Tehran Mehrabad Airport still need to be convinced that they won't be able to board their own country's rescue flight.
