The political upheaval in North Africa is responsibility of the Western powers —especially of the United States and France— due to the exercise of a foreign policy based on practical and economic interests instead of ethical and theoretical principles, essential for their international politic strategies, which have generated a great instability that causes chaos and violence, as occurs in Western Sahara, the last African colony according to the UN, a region on the brink of war.

Baionarena is a live album and DVD release in 2009 by Manu Chao and Radio Bemba. It was recorded during summer 2008 in the Arena of Bayonne during the Fêtes de Bayonne, hence the name Baionarena which also happens to mean the one that belongs to Bayonne in Basque.

This special, behind-the-scenes film takes us on a trip to Mali to witness Amadou & Mariam at home and their musical encounter with legendary artist and producer Manu Chao during the making of their hit album Dimanche à Bamako, The music provides the lifeblood of the film, featuring the hits Sénégal Fast Food and La Realité, popular favourites Coulibaly, M’Bifé and Camions Sauvages plus a rare, unreleased live song by Manu Chao, Kira.

Formed by Manu and Antoine Chao, along with their cousin Santiago Casariego, the French band Mano Negra was formed in 1987, in Paris. The band was immediately spotted in the music scene for its unique style that mixed rock, French chanson, flamenco, ska, salsa, reggae, hip-hop and African rhythms.During the '90s, Mano Negra reached its greatest commercial success both in Europe and in the Spanish-speaking world, where it left an influential mark for contemporary music. The documentary chronicles Mano Negra's entire career through the testimonies of its members, as well as bands sharing their beginnings, such as Los Carayos, Joint de Culasse and Hot Pants.

From Paris to Tijuana and Detroit to Barcelona, in a big venue or an intimate dive, the equation is sure to be the same: Manu Chao + Radio Bemba = an explosive cocktail. An explosion of joy. Sweating, shouting, jumping… songs coming one after another at the speed of light… a short pause… then a loud surge of rock & roll.
