Documentary made for the 60th anniversary of Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein.

This story of the Nazi prison camps in the 1930s deals with the attempts of the Nazi guards to break the spirit of the Communists in concentration camps.

In northward far camp NKVD arrives echelon with the group of prisoners. Among them there are an engineer Sadovskiy and inveterate criminal Kostya, that quickly becomes the ringleader of barrack and forbids to all the appearances at work. The officials of cheka begin a persistent and tactful fight for the change of these people.

The same is honored by his Jewish friend Joseph Voltmeyer. During the solemn ceremony, Nazi students provoke a fight, beat Joseph and Ruddy, who stood up for him.

The anti-hero Glumov tries to escape exposure in the midst of acrobatics, derring-do, and farcical clowning. Several members of Eisenstein's troupe at the legendary "Proletkult" stage theatre in Moscow briefly appear in this little film.
