Charandas, a young man in a village has no aim in life except to be a pehelwaan (wrestler). He takes an oath that he will not court or marry a girl until he hits the age of forty. But things changes when Charandas meets Chameli and falls in love with her. A hilarious take on the caste system of India, as both of them come from different castes and try hard to marry each other.

Suman (Raakhee) and Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) love each other and plan to marry soon. Amit lives with his younger brother, Raju (Randhir Kapoor), and Raju already calls Suman "Bhabhi". Amit teaches in college, but Raju is unemployed and a little bit spoiled by Amit and Suman's pamperings. Raju gets into bad company, and as a result in trouble. The climax in Raja's life is in the Court Room where he will find out about his past, and about his parents - while he awaits the outcome of the trial. Peter (O. P. Ralhan) and Kitty (Helen) love each other, but due to Peter's poverty, they are unable to marry each other. One day, during a secret rendezvous, Peter accidentally overhear a conversation between one Mahesh Jetley and his paramour, where Mahesh tells her that he is soon going to bump off his wife on a certain date. Peter and Kitty decide to foil this man's plans. However, there are 2 problems: 1 - They have not seen Mahesh or his paramour's face. 2 - Even if they had, no one would believe their story. Hence, the lovers decide to do a little investigation on their own. They find three Mahesh Jetleys. On some snooping, they find that each man is married and each of them has a miserable married life. To find their suspect, they devise a plan whereby they will stage an attack on each man's wife. Whoever the culprit is, will freak out and his identity will be revealed.

Dr. Anand Kumar joins a village clinic, works hard despite difficulties. He marries Nisha but later neglects her after becoming a successful doctor. Nisha leaves him when she realizes his changed priorities.
