Amin is an honest security guard in one of the factories, he falls in love with Yasmina the factory worker, and over time discovers that Yasmina is a member of a gang headed by Asim Damanhouri, who tries to kill Amin but he stabbs him in self-defense. Amin then flees with Yasmina to Ghassan's house.

When a free-spirited sailor is found murdered, his twin brother, a famous novelist, is the prime suspect. Investigators uncover a possible liaison between the dead sailor and the writer's wife, and also learn that Sayed's successful fictions owed much to the inspiration of his brother Mahmoud's adventurous life. Just as the evidence against the writer seems overwhelming, Mahmoud turns up alive. But why are the twins never seen together...?

Moving from Alexandria to Cairo, the man becomes embroiled in an affair, while also falling for a pure-hearted journalist who is attempting to assist him in his aimless, futile journey. Adapted from Naguib Mahfouz’s 1964 novel of the same title.
