La Comédie-Française is the oldest continuous repertory company in the world, founded in Paris in the late 17th century. This is the first time a documentary film-maker has been allowed to look at all the aspects of the work of this great theatrical company. Sequences in the film include sections of plays, casting, set and costume design, administrative meetings and rehearsals and performances of four classic French plays, Don Juan by Molière, La Thebaide by Racine, La Double Inconstance by Marivaux and Occupe-toi d'Amelie by Feydeau. A perfectly innocent computer jockey becomes the prime suspect in a bank robbery. Among the tribulations he must suffer is that the real culprit is his landlady. Another source of suffering for the poor man is his extremely strong-willed mother, whose wants must be catered to. Meanwhile, he is being rabidly pursued by one of his female coworkers, who has taken a shine to him.

This stage play from 1977 is adapted from the well-known play "Lorenzaccio" written by French poet and playwright Alfred de Musset. Set in 16th-century Florence, the play revolves around the complex and tormented protagonist Lorenzo, known as Lorenzaccio, who faces inner conflicts as he struggles with his desire for personal freedom and the responsibility he feels towards his city. Between political corruption, morality, and the struggle for justice; the stage blends with historical drama and psychological exploration.
