However, above one of the city's villas, once a week in the evening the stars of hope sparkle, if only for a few minutes. This short time gives fresh heart to those hiding here and kindles hope in their tortured souls to live for another day. This mysterious power is none other than a beautiful song that can be heard at such times from the villa's tower room.

An eclectic, quasi-surreal city road movie about two unspoken lovers who cruise a ’68 Mustang through a dreamscape of pizza joints, art-deco skyscrapers, eclipsed suns, surf beaches and palm-fringed oceans, where red neon, hi-techno beats and old-school surf-punk collide. One summer morning, Anna tells her husband, the writer, that she is in a blessed state, but that she doubts whether she should have a fourth child in addition to the three she already has, because "having children here is, to put it mildly, illogical". This decision is explored in the film as events of the present are interspersed with memories of the past.

The Hungarian Oh, Bloody Life reflects on the heavy emotional toll taken by the repressive Stalin regime. Dorotya Udvaros plays a young actress from a high-born family. The government bias against persons of wealth threatens to destroy her career before it begins. As a final blow, she is threatened with deportation. The exasperation inherent in the film's title is only the tip of the iceberg.

The film is set in 1939, just before the outbreak of World War II. Alfréd Gontrán is a bar dancer and silk boy who, in the course of his adventurous and dubious life, tries out many different ways of making a living and earning a living, until he is finally found to be a reliable gentleman in a country drifting towards fascism, and is given the honour of representing the new order.
