Gera, a respected director of TV commercials, thinks he's capable of creating a fiction movie masterpiece. Predictably, he ends up with owning money to a mafia and no film to show for. To make his life even crazier he falls in love with a girl who belongs to the boss of mafia.

The action takes place in Lwów (L'viv) on the eve of World War II. A former White Army officer (Vladimir Mashkov) after the defeat of the Whites in the civil war in Russia emigrated to Poland (Lwów was a Polish city at that time). The chief dream of his was to buy Alaska from the USA and to return it back to Russia.

Four women—Redhead, Blackie, May Lily and Irina—survive 1990s Russia by luring wealthy drunks and desperate men into their flat with booze and promises, then robbing and sometimes killing them. Their hulking bodyguard Baban keeps their crimes quiet (and occasionally watches their secret lesbian parties). Even Blackie’s little daughter gets drawn into the fold, peeking through a crack in the wall. Together, they dream of escaping the post-Soviet grime and spending next Christmas in Paris.

A criminal-political pamphlet deals with a coup d'état. A young man with a rifle equipped with an optical sight is driving around Moscow in a car, and next to him are two call girls.

Actors adapting Mikhail Lermontov's "Bela" are imbued with the lives of their characters, shown from the perspective of the Russian officer scouting locations in the Chechen landscape.
