A television film about a famous scientist, traveler, and educator of the 19th century. About the life and work of Shokan Valikhanov— the first Kazakh scholar-educator, historian, ethnographer, and folklorist.

An old man in need of care and attention moves to his son in the city. But soon the son and his wife send the old man to a shelter for the elderly. However, the grandson, who loved his grandfather and understood the cruelty of what is happening, leaves his parents and takes the old man to his future wife.

The first post-revolutionary years in Kazakhstan, the period of formation of Soviet power. More than once, the bandits tried to deal with the singer of the people, the poet Erken, but could not silence him.
