Senior Lieutenant Vasily Bodrug and his wife Evgenia arrive at the border outpost after the wedding to serve. The film reproduces the events of the summer of 1921, when Kotovsky, at the head of a separate cavalry brigade, completed the defeat of the Antonov counterrevolutionary rebellion in the Tambov region, destroying Matyukhin's gang.

The film brings back to the screen another page of the underground youth struggle against the fascist occupiers of Moldova — the Romanian Cigurans.
