Sigurdur Thórarinsson

A film about scientific research on the glacier Vatnajökull with excerpts from films taken on the glacier by various film makers in the past.

The film, which is based on earlier footage taken by Steindór Sigurðsson, Árni Stefánsson & Guðmundur Einarsson, describes the volcanic eruption in Mt. Hekla in 1947/1948.

Swedish-Icelandic documentary film commissioned by Iceland's tourist board, which in magnificent color photography links the heritage from the fairy tale era with contemporary Iceland. The film was produced in two language versions – one in Swedish and one in Icelandic – different soundtracks and subtitles, but where the moving images were the same.
