Alicija (33), a Polish-born liberal free-thinker, joins the Awakening movement in occupied Latvia. Her newlywed husband Ilgvars (53), a man with the experience of another generation, calls her to be more careful and cautious. With the support of a close friend, the poet Normunds (40), Alicija soon comes to the forefront of the Singing Revolution. However, alongside the first success, difficulties appear – Alicija receives an anonymous letter accusing Ilgvars of being a former KGB informant. His ambiguous answer leads to her wanting to find out the truth. Realizing that her husband’s actions in the KGB have affected the fate of her close friend, Alicija faces an unenviable choice. Torn by internal contradictions, she continues her work to restore the country’s independence, unable to find courage to resolve the situation. Alicija buries herself in her work and the emotional connection with her husband gradually fades away.

Diana, a woman in her early 40s, struggles to end an abusive relationship with her husband while also trying to protect the only possession their family have left – an apartment in a luxurious part of the city. As the couple’s daughter Astra gets involved in the conflict, Diana will have to make a choice between Astra’s wellbeing and her own goals and convictions.

The film, like fragile, sensual, philosophical poetry, evokes the youth of the Poet (Imants Ziedonis) and Auķa (the actress Ausma Kantāne-Ziedone was called Imants), when poetic words in letters and postcards were the lifeline for another person. In his letters, the Poet writes about the cultural figures with whom he travels to distant lands, his observations about places where ordinary people of that time could rarely travel – even to Bulgaria and Poland, as well as Sakhalin. The poet's observations about the people he met in foreign lands, as well as about parties, cafes, and girls, are amusing. In the letters, just like in Imants Ziedonis' poetry, there is their longing for a strong family filled with children, understanding, personality development, as well as contrasts and reflections on their great talents, and how close they are to each other even when they have reached creative heights.

Harry Berzins is abducted by aliens. Traumatic experience gained is on a foreign planet, where the gray race rules and makes Berzins feel excluded. The only creature he believes is the odd Ufologist Vilma Kavace. While Vilma uses Berzins as an alien attraction bait, his mother, impregnated with a Latvian sperm on another planet, carries his child. Shieet.
