The main event features Hayato "Mach" Sakurai facing Shinya Aoki in a welterweight Grand Prix opening round bout, with Sakurai coming off a TKO win over Kuniyoshi Hironaka at DREAM.6 and Aoki fresh from a submission victory over David Gardner at DREAM.7. Other welterweight Grand Prix matchups include Marius Žaromskis vs. Seichi Ikemoto, Jason High vs. Yuya Shirai, and Andre Galvão vs. John Alessio. Additional bouts showcase Sergei Kharitonov vs. Jeff Monson in a heavyweight clash and Riki Fukuda vs. Murilo Rua.

EliteXC: Heat a mixed martial arts event held by EliteXC on October 4, 2008 in Sunrise, Florida at the Bank Atlantic Center. It was the third and final EliteXC show to be featured on CBS and marked the return of fighters Jake Shields, Gina Carano, and Kimbo Slice. A last minute injury to Ken Shamrock the day of the show made him pull out from the main even. Kimbo fight Seth Petruzelli instead.

EliteXC: Return of The King was a mixed martial arts event promoted by EliteXC that took place on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Oahu, Hawaii. The main card aired live on Showtime. The Welterweight title bout of Jake Shields vs. Drew Fickett was removed from the original card when Fickett sustained an injury. The event drew an estimated 350,000 viewers on Showtime. Nick Diaz showed up for his 160 pound lightweight fight at 169 pounds which lead to it becoming a catchweight bout.

EliteXC: Uprising was a mixed martial arts event promoted by EliteXC and co-promoted by Icon Sport and Rumble World Entertainment. The event took place on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Oahu, Hawaii.

Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Baroni was a mixed martial arts event co-promoted by Strikeforce and EliteXC. The event took place on Friday, June 22, 2007 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The main card aired on pay-per-view, with the undercard streamed live on ProElite.com. The PPV event was rebroadcast on the Showtime premium cable channel on June 30, 2007.
