Ichikawa Hajime (a.k.a. Ping), a fisherman, is a single-minded man of the sea. Rokuda, on the other hand, has fled to this fishing town from an assassin to cover his mouth in a corruption case. Their encounter sets off a bomb in the world of politics and the yakuza.

The Japanese Civil Wars fought in the name of the emperor signaled the complete end of the feudal system and Japan’s entry into the modern world as those brave samurai tried to halt progress and learned that the age of modern warfare and weaponry had passed them by. Swords were no match for rifles and cannons, nor was any man a match for the power of the imperial flag. Japanese loyalty to the emperor has long defined the nation and culture despite the changing times.

A young theatre actress fights for her uncertain career while having to confront the personal sacrifices that will arise from it.

Accused of being a spy for a rival clan by Nanbu Clan samurai who then attack him, the 'Lowly Ronin' barely escapes with his life after being shot. Nursed back to health by Yamaoka Daijiro, the one Nanbu Clan retainer that believes him, he must find a way to prove his inno-cence to the others. The two team up together to uncover the mystery and find out who the real spy is that threatens the security of the clan.
