Film story based on the book by L. Karelin "Microdistrict". Young projectionist Mikhail Anokhin, while preparing for the elections, becomes an agitator of his microdistrict, makes friends and enemies, and helps those who need help.

Grishka Hamuraru, the grandson of the underground fighter Samson Hamuraru, who is still unjustly considered a traitor in the Moldovan village of Vioreni for having led a partisan group to ruin during the war, decides to conduct his own investigation and restore his grandfather's good name.

Communist Anna Dronova, a participant in the civil war, returns to her native village. Having become the chairman of the village council, Anna rallies the poor around her and fiercely fights with the kulaks for a new life. Meanwhile, a gang of Pantelei Lychkov successfully operates in the vicinity. By killing his own brother Yakov, who took Anna's side, he makes it clear to everyone and especially Anna that nothing wouldn't stop him.

Varya Kravets remains on her native collective farm after graduating from school. Her first love also came to her. The death of her beloved is all the more unexpected for her. Fellow villagers are helping to overcome the crisis.

The film consists of three short stories: “King of the Mountains” - about a giant bear; “Loyalty” is a touching love story between two storks; “The Loop” is about a proud deer.
