According to Vyrypaev’s idea, “Excitement” is a play about the “Author”. The action takes place in New York, in Manhattan, in the apartment of the famous American writer of Polish descent Ulie Richte, whose role is played by Alice Freindlich. A Polish journalist, Krzysztof Zelinsky, takes a very important interview from her, a closed and non-public person.

The plot revolves around the rehearsal of the play “Excitement” in which Freindlikh is to play a famous American writer from New York. The actress and director have heated debates about the eccentric character. They discuss the process of creation, its mysterious mechanisms, the birth of a work of art in general. They also talk about the world around Alisa outside the theatre – her family, home, friends, interests and her beloved St. Petersburg. The film is meant to commemorate the great Russian actress’s 85th anniversary.

Andrei Tarkovsky is the most famous Russian director, often called a genius during his lifetime. He made relatively few films, but each has become a classic of world cinema, including "Andrei Rublev," "Solaris," "Mirror," and "Stalker." His films seem to be crafted from air, water, fire, deep emotions, and even his own dreams. This art is profoundly sincere and confessional, but what about the creator behind it? What was this god-like figure like, living a mortal life filled with weaknesses, fears, and doubts?

Elena Mihailovna, having worked all her life in the only school of a provincial town, lives modestly in retirement. Unexpectedly she learns of a fatal diagnosis, which can at any moment end her life. Instead of an unbearable anticipation, she resolutely begins the preparation for her own death, in order to simplify the procedure for her son. She has not seen her only son for over five years because he worrks in the capital. Oleg is constantly busy, and he does not have time for his lonely mother. At the same time with all the new problems, the heroine receives as a gift a huge carp, which changes her life.

Young and extremely talented dancer Yulya Olshanskaya from a small mining town draws a “happy ticket”: she is noticed by a former ballet dancer Pototsky and he promises her a future of great ballerina, worthy of the main stage of the country. However, in order to become a diamond, anyone, even the most outstanding brilliant, needs to be cut, and the way to the legendary stage of The Bolshoi Theatre for Yulya lies through the walls of the ballet school, where the more capricious teacher Galina Mikhailovna Beletskaya takes custody of the rebellious provincial. Turning into a prima will require incredible self-denial, and Yulya herself will have to make sure that the big ballet is not only the whiteness of the packs, the gold of the boxes and the slip of silk ribbons. But no obstacles will stop the one who has the big dream.

Moving to a new place of residence, to an old apartment in the slums of St. Petersburg, Olga and her daughter Natasha accidentally discover a letter from the distant blockade of the forty-second year. A letter from the boy Yura for the girl Martha, whom he unwittingly offended before he had time to confess his love… The search for Marta becomes Olga and Natasha's salvation from pain and true self-discovery...

The film is about what children and teenagers of besieged Leningrad survived. 14 surviving heroes and dozens of those for whom only lines of diaries and signatures for children's drawings can now speak, word by word, minute by minute, story after story, revive the siege of memory. What did people actually feel in the besieged city? Which of what we know about the blockade is true, and what is a myth, a stamp from a history textbook? The authors of the film with the help of video comparisons, reconstructions return modern St. Petersburg to the terrible time of the blockade, combining history with momentary.
