Musicologist Alla Arsenyeva arrives in Tadjikistan on a mission. Her goal is to find a unique white grand piano, known to be made in France in the nineteenth century. Rumours say it was last seen in the republic’s capital Dushanbe. The local authorities, however, are uncooperative and do whatever they can to thwart her efforts, attempting to make the rare instrument national property. But Alla persists, assisted by her new friends, the celebrated composer J.J. Ahmedov, his young colleague Shodi, the charming Lola and the old woman Roziya-Bibi.

The comedy is based on the ancient legend of Tahir and Zuhr. The action has been transferred to our time. Various obstacles stand in the way of lovers, but in the end, despite all the machinations of others, Tahir and Zuhra find their happiness.

After graduating from school in his native village, Zumrad goes to Dushanbe to continue his studies at the institute. Soon she becomes the wife of a young professor Kadyrov. But her feudal husband wanted to lock her up in four walls, forced her to leave the institute. And after the birth of his daughter (and not his son), he became rude, insulted and beat his wife. Zumrad left him. After transferring to the correspondence department, she returned to the village. Not everyone welcomed the woman who arrived with a child without a husband. But kind people helped. Zumrad became a foreman, gained authority. She fell in love with her childhood friend Jalil, and he also reciprocates her feelings.

About the Soviet border guards who declassified Operation Cobra, organized by foreign intelligence for the purpose of daily photographing a military facility. Participants of the "Cobra": a trained dog and an old watchman of the local hospital, Yusup. He is also the snake charmer Harun Baba, and the German spy Otto Grieg, already known from old sorties.
