A wife gets a call from a state adoption agent on her way home. They have been selected to adopt a child with her husband. When she goes into their home to tell the news to her husband she finds him in the bathroom.

In 1949 in Hungary during a dictatorship a mother was jailed, her two-year-old son is taken to a foster home where he receives a new name. His mother is freed after 4 years but she fails to find her son because he received a new identity. She pressures the head of the institute with the help of a journalist friend of hers, to reunite the child with his mother. When the child gets reunited with his own mother he doesn't recognize her.
