To save her father from bankruptcy, Nan Everard marries wealthy Peter Craddock and under protest goes with him to South America. En route she is injured in an automobile wreck, but Peter continues the trip. He returns to find her renewing an old friendship, and though she hopes to obtain a divorce she finally surrenders to his stronger will.

A young man is bet $100,000 that his famous luck can hold out and he can make that sum in one year's time, literally starting with nothing. He proceeds to Pennsylvania, where prize fight winnings are used to build a new town.

Amy Lindel, a church choir singer, goes to the city to pursue a singing career, but finds herself only able to get cabaret gigs. She then becomes entangled in a situation involving stolen diamonds, and is saved by the "good guy" whom she later marries.

According to Richard Standhope's will, both his daughter Laura and her long-lost twin brother Larry must be reunited by a certain date, or the estate will revert to her avaricious guardian, Andrew Brean. At the start of the Civil War, John becomes a Union officer, while Betsey and her father staunchly defend the South. When Confederate Colonel Morgan, the leader of the intrepid band known as "Morgan's Men," commissions a young horseman to deliver an important message to the Dawley mansion, the rider is shot and Betsey takes his place, breaking through the lines and successfully accomplishing the mission.

Unknown to Judith Ralston, her brother Budd and his wife Vera are counterfeiters. In order to escape Fayban, a secret service agent, they leave Judith at a little town in Virginia. One day while out horseback riding, Judith is injured and rescued by Boone Pendleton, who takes her to his cabin. Later, she receives instructions from her brother to go to the Ralston house and destroy anything that she sees. Fayban, suspicious of the girl, wires Washington to shadow her.

A tomboy, raised by a father who wanted a son, runs away from boarding school and gets a job at a firm.
