Can we ever be freed from the "curse of love" that dictates "women must be pretty and fall in love"? A humorous and at times affecting chronicle of an artistic girl’s life and loves from elementary school, through university, into young adulthood.

Three young women live together in an old house in a corner of Tokyo. They are not related by blood, but they have been bound together by a strong bond for 12 years. They care about each other and spend their own ordinary days together. The matter of unrequited love arises for them that they can't tell anyone.

This film is a love story centered around the clumsy yet earnest first love of shy high school boy Nozumu and Kei, a popular girl in his class. It is intertwined with the suspicious death of a classmate, a suicide attempt, and frightening suspicions about a lover.

Set in an all-girls Christian boarding school, Anna always feels like an outsider due to her ability to see ghosts. Her roommate, Rika, is the complete opposite: an effortlessly popular, well-liked honors student admired by everyone. But when Rika takes her own life, the entire school is shaken, none more so than her closest friend, Shiori, who struggles to make sense of the loss. Chisako Satoya, a writer, and her father, Kozo, had a long-standing feud and had been living apart for a long time. However now that Kozo, who lives alone, has dementia, she returns to her hometown to begin taking care of him.

Adapted from a book of poems by poet Taichi Nakao, the film is a road story set in beautiful nature and tranquil landscapes about a lonely janitor who doesn't communicate well and Haru, a teenage girl who is different, who travels on Route 29, which connects Hyogo-Himeji City to Tottori City, and through their encounters with marvelous people, they gain a richness of feelings, strengthen their bonds, and become fulfilled in their hearts.

Akiko (Mai Fukagawa) is a former idol, but now lives an ordinary life. She works at a company and keeps reminding herself that she is happy and to have a fulfilling day. One day, she walks to work and falls down. She becomes stuck and unable to move. Akiko breaks down mentally and decides to quit her job. Now, Akiko doesn't have a job, a boyfriend, and only 100,000 yen (~$700 USD) in her bank account. Her friend then tells her that she should move in with 56 year old salaryman Sasapon (Arata Iura), who lives alone in his house in Tokyo. When she visits Sasapon, he invites her to stay at his house on the condition that she can live there until his retirement. Their strange living arrangement begins.
