Petya and Vova are oceanographers in their class, and while Petya was taking an academic leave, Vova had already received an offer to work in China. Petya comes to say goodbye to his friend before leaving and meets many strangers at the party. For some reason, the only one missing is Vova's neighbor Zhenya.

At the center of this social absurdist comedy, filmed like a performance, are beautiful and bold women. They meet men and introduce them to their way of life. The men like where they've ended up and become part of the unique world of their chosen women. "Freedom" is a leftist pamphlet on the immodest charm of the bourgeoisie, made with a love of irony and the excessively free spirit of humanity. This is an auteur film, if only because the author himself periodically appears on screen throughout the story, narrating it to the viewer.

At a high school reunion, Liza decides to film her best friend Alena so that this recording "would go down in history." However, Alena's ex-boyfriend unexpectedly shows up with a child, and instead of a fun get-together in front of the camera, a drama between the former lovers unfolds.
