A supermarket is robbed. Commissioner Karl Jäger, who happens to be present, shoots the robber and is subsequently suspended from duty because the attacker’s weapon is not found. The incident also plunges Jäger into deep psychological problems. As a result, commissioners Lola Kraft and Jasmin Stein are called in when two bodies are discovered during the night of a class reunion at the Calw Hermann Hesse High School. Nikolaus Kaminsky is a former police profiler who has been living in seclusion for 20 years, with no contact with the outside world. Only his neighbor's daughter Simone manages to coax him out of his shell from time to time. When he threatens the 12-year-old with a knife for no apparent reason one day, detectives Jäger, Kraft, and Hoffmann are called in.
