Wroclaw, 1997. The city is threatened by flooding. Hospitals are being evacuated. Young ambitious psychiatrist Konstanty Grot takes a catatonic patient to the bus. He is a severe case, not responding to any attempts at contact. However, when the bus starts moving, he unexpectedly makes a gesture that awakens certain memories in the doctor. The psychiatrist decides to apply an unusual therapy.

The film tells the trials and tribulations of marriage Kosińskich, which breaks down as a result of his wife travel to work abroad in Amsterdam. In parting, their deprived son Michael looses both parents, and is forced to be present in court for divorce hearings and sent to child care services.

In Warsaw in 1980, the Communist Party sends disgruntled radio reporter Winkel to Gdańsk to dig up dirt on the shipyard strikers - particularly on Maciek Tomczyk, an independent labour union leader whose father was killed in the December 1970 protests. Posing as sympathetic, Winkel interviews the people surrounding Tomczyk, including his detained wife, Agnieszka.

A young architect is locked up in prison. He recalls his uncompromising youth and gradual sliding into the moral swamp of compromises. He was not alone. A group of his friends, dreamers and glass house builders, accompanied him.
