THE MAN WHO WAS THURSDAY is inspired by the existentialist novel of the same name by G.K. Chesterton (1908). The novel is considered a metaphysical thriller, and our film could be considered the same, though it also can be thought of in more classical cinematic terms a psychological and supernatural thriller.

Boróka, the 18-year-old heroine of the film, soon lives off the millions she has received to buy a home with her lover János, who, once they run out of money, trades her love for a Harley Davidson motorbike. Boróka becomes the prisoner of a pimp named Ronaldo. She has a bitter experience in the woods near the highway until she escapes from her captor at the first opportunity. She meets Móric, who takes in the escaped girl. Boróka enrols in an EU manager training course. Her talents soon come to light, successfully selling red umbrellas to a large crowd of her former acquaintances. Ronaldo and his buddy, tracking her down, find Móric, whose arm is broken in a fight. Boróka herself seeks revenge and attacks the pimp (in a female way) in a bodybuilding salon. After clearing the obstacles, she successfully completes the course, Móric recovers and the future may even bring love for the young couple.

Kata, in her 20s, loses her boyfriend and her job on the same day. She's been indulging in fantasies of a more thrilling romantic life, and the cold water of being alone and unemployed doesn't entirely dampen her imagination. She's egged on by three girlfriends who get together to talk about men and sex. The love story of students Jana and Tomáš begins in Prague just after the establishment of the First Republic. Their impulsive "escape to Buda" marks not only the liberation of the dissatisfied Jana from her monotonous life with her mentally unstable mother, but also the beginning of their fateful marriage. They settle in the picturesque Slovak foothills, on the sprawling estate of Tomáš's vital father, with whom Jana strikes up a deep friendship. Soon, however, she is visibly affected by Tomáš's surprising transformation. The marital crisis is deepened by the unstoppable decline of the estate. The family's efforts to establish itself in Vienna, which after the collapse of the monarchy is only a memory of its former glory, also fail. Jan's enterprising brother-in-law lends a helping hand. The return to prosperous Prague is their last chance, but it brings something different to everyone...
