Bellator 172: Fedor vs. Mitrione will air on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The event will air live in prime time on Spike TV. The event will be headlined by heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko against former UFC veteran Matt Mitrione. Emelianenko retired in 2012, but ultimately returned to the sport in 2015. This will be Emelianenko's first fight in the U.S. since 2011. Mitrione, a 38-year-old former NFL player has scored back-to-back knockout victories since joining Bellator over Carl Seumanutafa and Oli Thompson.

UFC Fight Night 71: Mir vs. Duffee was a mixed martial arts event held on July 15, 2015 at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. The event was headlined by a heavyweight bout between former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir and touted prospect Todd Duffee.

Originally, Thomson was slated to take on Anthony "Showtime" Pettis, but the lightweight champion had to pull out due to a knee injury. Now, Thomson and Henderson will battle for the right to be next in line when Pettis returns to action.

UFC on Fox 12: Lawler vs. Brown was a mixed martial arts event held on July 26, 2014, at SAP Center in San Jose, California. The event was headlined by a welterweight bout between Matt Brown and Robbie Lawler. UFC president Dana White subsequently announced that the winner of the main event would receive a title shot against UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks.

UFC on Fox 7: Henderson vs. Melendez was a mixed martial arts event held on April 20, 2013, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The event was headlined by a UFC Lightweight Championship bout between defending champion Benson Henderson and Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez. Also featured on the card was a bout between two time UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir and Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion Daniel Cormier.

Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey was a mixed martial arts event that was held by Strikeforce. It took place on March 3, 2012 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The event was the second that the organization had hosted in the state of Ohio and coincided with the Arnold Sports Festival, which annually draws up to 150,000 sports fans.

Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Finals: Barnett vs. Cormier (aka Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier) was a mixed martial arts event held by Strikeforce that served as the Heavyweight Tournament Finals. It took place on May 19, 2012 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
