On assignment from the editorial office a reporter from Yekaterinburg goes to a village lost in taiga, where he hears an ancient legend about the lord of the forest. Upon his return home all of a sudden he starts seeing and hearing the ancient spirit who begs him to save the endangered fantastic creatures. The reporter agrees and in the company of his 12-year-old daughter, who has come from Moscow to spend the vacation with him, he sets off for the lands virtually untouched by civilization. The trip filled with unexpected adventures, will bring the father and daughter closer together because it’s only together that they will be able to solve the mystery of the ancient legends from the past.

Each short story is an independent story exploring how cinema begins, how it influences us and where the line between the screen and reality lies. It can be a short sketch from the set, where the lighting technician suddenly changes places and importance with the most influential auteur director; preparation for the first film screening in Rus'; a conversation between friends immediately after the film; a story of a difficult choice between creative freedom and a career; and finally, a free interpretation of the 1986 film about the life of a simple fisherman from Kaliningrad.

Government official Victor Letayev oversees road construction in the Perm region. He is a cynical kind, accustomed to always getting things done, and getting them done his way. He loves his job, he is good at it, and he has zero interest in anything else. His motto is, “I used to chop firewood for a living. Everyone needs firewood; you can’t heat a home with art or culture.” Victor’s attitude changes when art and culture become areas of priority for his region’s development. Now, in order to keep his job, Victor has to study Perm region’s cultural heritage. Hoping to make things easier for himself, he takes lessons from art historian Marina. Will she succeed in imposing cultural awareness on a pragmatic government functionary?

Vera deceives a family from Perm to the Arkhangelsk region in the illusory hope of finding her youngest daughter, who disappeared without a trace a year and a half ago. She does not suspect that this deception can lead to an even greater tragedy.

Everything changes when a friend, nicknamed the Joker, comes to one of the guests. He decides to prove to everyone that it's too early to die, but to shake the old days is the very thing. Together with a former theater actress, the trio comes up with an unusual business and quickly comes to success: life in the "Cones" becomes a resort! That's just energetic pensioners have become competitors of local bandits…
