When in 1941 Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union, their troops quickly besieged Leningrad. Foreign journalists are evacuated but one of them, Kate Davies, is presumed dead and misses the plane. Alone in the city she is helped by Nina Tsvetnova a young and idealist police officer and together they will fight for their own survival and the survival of the people in the besieged Leningrad.

A young businessman believes that money and fortune are the most important things in the world. One day he loses all his money and faces the necessity to reconsider and change his life.

Famous actors and TV presenters Nikolai Fomenko and Ivan Urgant want to celebrate the holiday quietly and calmly, but, having lost their way, they end up in an enchanted house that does not let them out until the heroes believe in the New Year, a real fairy tale and a miracle, immersing themselves in the atmosphere of popular films.

An eccentric comedy. Love and money have always inspired people to feats, long wanderings and even crimes. It has always been almost impossible to stop such madmen. And what will happen this time — no one knows yet. Only one thing is known — it will happen in Lopukhi, in an ordinary Russian village with ordinary Russian citizens.

In the center of the plot is a screenwriter hired to create a new film. He writes a script about his childhood in the post-war Moscow courtyard. About how the boys were at enmity with the firemen, how they tried to blow up the fire, and how the firemen took revenge on them ... And how the boys ate the earth, swearing allegiance to each other ... And about who passed the test and who did not .. In his memoirs the script writer seems to be walking around in circles, returning to his childhood, as the brightest part of his life, where he very much wants to return, like a prodigal son in his father's house...

During the bloody war in Chechnya, a British couple and two Russian soldiers are taken hostage by Chechen rebels. Two of the hostages are then released to bring the money for the British woman who is forced to wait for the ransom.

A performance by the Alexandrinsky Theatre based on the eponymous play by Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol. The production is based on the stage version by Vsevolod Meyerhold and M. Korenyev (GOSTIM, 1926), directed by Valery Fokin.
