Praia, Cape Verde. Laura, Flavia and Bela are childhood friends. Each leads her own life and they sometimes meet to dance, dine and have fun. But one day the calm rivers of their lives break their banks and become wild torrents: Ricardo, Flavia's husband, rapes his pupil Indira, Laura's 13-year old eldest daughter. A film that takes a critical look at the lives of women in Cape Verde.

This is the story of a sixty day long walk in Cape Verde. No mobile phone, no watch, no plans for what to do next – only the bare essentials in the backpack. Out traveller explores the mountains, the villages, the sea, a talking tortoise, the goats, the music, the dry haze, the people of Cape Verde and an essential part of himself.

The Cape Verde Islands lie in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Senegal. Each island has its own charm and variety of landscapes to offer: from the dramatic volcanic landscapes to the green gardens of Sao Antão and the endless sandy beaches of Sao Vicente. The African archipelago captivates above all with its very own music, the “morna”, made famous worldwide by Cesária Évora. It is a kind of plaintive blues that touches the soul and tells of heartache, longing and the challenges of life. Évora is a great role model for the young singer Claudia. She is studying law, but dreams of a career on the big stage.
