The Isle of Wight Festival is a music festival which takes place every year on the Isle of Wight in England.It was originally held from 1968 to 1970. These original events were promoted and organised by the Foulk brothers (Ron, Ray and Bill Foulk) under the banner of their company Fiery Creations Limited.

In late August 1970, shortly after the release of their album "A Question Of Balance," The Moody Blues took to the stage of the Isle of Wight Festival in front of an audience estimated at over half a million. The band were at their creative and commercial peak after a succession of albums that had enjoyed unprecedented global success. This film from award winning director Murray Lerner combines the band's live performance from the 1970 festival with archive footage and new interview with Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, John Lodge and Mike Pinder setting the band's performance in the context of the time. In August 1970, 600,000 fans flocked to the Isle of Wight to witness the third and final festival to be held on the island. Besides the music, they also got a look at the greed, cynicism and corruption that would plague the music industry for years to come. They also witnessed the final, drugged out performance of Jimi Hendrix in England just two weeks before he would meet a tragic death. When it all was over, the fans view of rock and roll was never the same.

Just three years into their career and just months before the release of the their acclaimed album "Aqualung," Jethro Tull performed on the final day of the 1970 Isle of Wight festival. Aware-winning director Murray Lerner captures tension between the hippie audience and show organizers, and audio commentary by from man Ian Anderson provides intimate perspective into the band's festival experience. Songs include "Nothing is Easy" and "My God."

In 2004 The Who returned to the Isle Of Wight Festival for the first time since their legendary performance in 1970. After a long absence, the festival had been reborn in 2002 and continues to this day. Their UK concerts in 2004 were the first in their home country since the death of founder member John Entwistle. As the evening shadows lengthened across the festival site, The Who took to the stage and delivered an incendiary performance packed with hit singles and classic album tracks and the concert more than lived up to the fan s expectations and memories of 1970.

It was ELP’s first proper live concert, their only previous gig having been a warm up in Plymouth the previous night. Playing in front of a record 600,000 people, at what remains the biggest festival in rock history, they became overnight stars. With a spectacular stage show that included real cannons being fired over the heads of the audience, they became overnight stars with the press raving about their virtuosity and daring. lntercut with the live footage from the show , this film also features brand new Interviews with Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer as well as their then manager John Gaydon and creates a vivid portrait of the birth o f a band. They would go on from here to become multi-million selling artists, but this unique film is there right at the beginning.

Mod rockers The Who are captured live by director Murray Lerner at the legendary Isle of Wight festival in 1970, attended by 600,000 people. All the old classics are included in a typically energetic set; Moon the Loon, Roger the Dodger and Pete... the guitarist. And John Entwistle on bass.

His “Isle Of Wight” concert, which is presented on this disc, features many of Jimi’s best material, supported by his “Experience” band, with Billy Cox on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. “Freedom”, “Voodoo Chile”, “All Along The Watchtower”, “Red House”, and “Machine Gun” are only a few of the highlights on this disc. During this infamous concert, Jimi was also playing “New Rising Sun” and “Lover Man”, both of which are unfortunately missing from this recording for some reason.

The 2019 Isle Of Wight Festival ended when Biffy Clyro closed the Main Stage in spectacular fashion, with pyrotechnics and fireworks aplenty. The truly anthemic set spanned their 20+ year career and their return to the Isle of Wight Festival was welcomed by the band and fans alike; frontman Simon Neil, clad in a mustard suit proclaimed “we love this festival, it’s great to be back”.

Announced on September 27th, 2021, Muse will be headlining the Isle of Wight Festival 2022 together with Lewis Capaldi, Lionel Richie, Kasabian & Pete Thong, amongst others. This is the second time that Muse played at the festival, the last one being in 2007. The gig took place on June 19th, 2022, in Newport's Seaclose Park.
