At a newsstand, two women file divorce papers so that one of them can start a new chapter in her life, free of fear and violence.

Short film by Gertrude Moser-Wagner

A young boy sees his own world through a window of the kiosk which he is working in...

In her debut feature, Alexandra Pianelli captures the unique world in and around her family’s Paris newsstand, presenting a film diary that lovingly documents her time working there. Sequestered behind the cramped counter, Pianelli films the world as it passes before her with a boundless sense of curiosity and compassion. iPhone or GoPro strategically set up before her, she records idiosyncratic interactions with charming regulars who drop by for their newspapers and a chat, or the lost passers-by simply looking for directions. Le Kiosque is a tender study of humanity, as well as a bittersweet sketch of physical media’s dying days as the newsstand’s future becomes increasingly unclear.

The story of an obese kiosk lady who is stuck in the kiosk.

This was a experimental piece I made after getting stood up on 3 dates back to back at the mall. Therefore I went back to the three malls, to show how I currently view them.

The artist, emphasizing the objective dimension of the film camera, draws attention to the opposition between the space of the frame (what is presented) and the space outside the frame (what is excluded from the frame, i.e. the continuum of reality). According to Katherine Russel, such a strategy “emphasizes the subordination of reality to form. The picture frame, which has its own autonomy, limits the "view" to a simple economy: inside / outside. The nature of the "interior" is determined by the composition and detail, "outside" there is an unknown space that is never fully described. The fixed frame represents the intentionality of phenomenological consciousness, but at the same time it defines the limits of what is visible and knowable. The static frame indicates the subject of perception. The four sides of the frame also direct our attention to what is beyond it, that is: a continuum of reality defined by a kind of anti-continuum of the frame ”.

Kiosk - the band and the movie - makes music from the howl of oppression. Founded in 2003 by lead singer and guitarist Arash Sobhani, Kiosk is Iran's most prominent underground rock band. At first, the musicians met in back alleys and basements around Tehran - in any little 'kiosk' beyond the regime's grasp. Their lyrics pry the skin off the Islamic Republic and hold up a mirror to the ghosts beneath. Kiosk has become the voice of the revolution. Not the holy war waged by clerics and politicians. But the revolt of the free mind against the boot-heel of tyranny.

Tassos is a kiosk owner who is in love with Foula. He has a constant fear of vehicles speeding past his kiosk. His friend Vangelis wants to help him overcome his fear. A series of strange events, misunderstandings, and unrequited love will lead to the marriage of Tasos and Foula.
