A drunken fool by the name of Paul Revere Wilson (or Williams or something) drinks too much and imagines himself living in 1776.

In the summer of 1975, with a mobile rotoscoping station in tow, Mary Beams and Susan Hodara recorded locals and tourists alike musing on Paul Revere beneath his statue in Boston. With cerulean-washed frames and shifting white outlines of visitors, the documentary soundtrack creates a unique portrait of place and time.

Revolutionary War folk hero Paul Revere is most noted for his famed "midnight ride," but his contributions to American history didn't start -- or end -- there. A courier, spy, propagandist, Continental Army colonel, master silversmith and industrialist, this fierce patriot was devoted to procuring and protecting the freedom of his country. In this program, the many roles this legendary figure played in shaping the new nation are revealed.

Directed by Edwin S. Porter
