Northern New Mexico’s 560,000-acre Vermejo is one such place—a land rich with history, from dinosaurs and early Indigenous communities to homesteaders, a conservation-minded grain baron, and Hollywood’s glitterati seeking outdoor recreation. But modern times took their toll, leaving it overgrazed and scarred by mining. In 1996, Ted Turner bought the land as part of his work to restore and protect lands across the United States. A dedicated team began to work to heal the land, transforming it into a thriving sanctuary. Today, Vermejo Reserve stands as a testament to what’s possible: biodiversity restored, landscapes reborn, and a model for global conservation.

The film tells the saga of the Dagars - the renowned family of Moslem royal musicians, who over many generations practiced and preserved dhrupad - the oldest form of Indian classical music, that has its origins in Hindu temple music and spiritual thought. The two main protagonists are Fahimuddin Dagar, one of the last bearers of the knowledge of this tradition, and his student Ashish Sankrityayan, the filmmaker, who wields the camera while learning, discussing, singing, and travelling with his teacher.

Daredevil cowboy Ned Ferguson is hired by John Stafford to stop the cattle rustling plaguing his ranch. Ranch foreman Dave Leviatt tells Ned that Mary's brother Ben is behind the rustling. After Ben and Ned come to an understanding, Dave shoots Ben from under cover but Ben is sure that Ned double-crossed him. Mary will have nothing to do with Ned, even after Ned saves her life during a cattle stampede.
