Impersonating Little Eva in a third-rate travelling production of Uncle Tom's Cabin fails to earn Nora enough for a square daily meal, and to make thing worse, her stage career comes to a sudden end when the sheriff arrives with a writ of seizure. Nora hops a passing freight but is frightened by a tramp, jumps off, and literally rolls into the town of Wattelville. After being arrested as a suspicious character, Nora is adopted by the kindly Ma Forbes, whose son James works in the local bank. "Pug" Hennessy and "Soup" McCool, two crooks, inveigle the scrupulously honest James into a poker game and, as a result, he is forced to steal $300 from the bank to cover his losses. Impersonating expert safe-cracker Velvet Mary, Nora helps the crooks to break into the bank, but upon opening the safe, she sounds the alarm, and the crooks are arrested. Having learned his lesson, James proposes to Nora, who never again is forced to go hungry.

In a saloon in a Mexican border town, a group of cowboys, including a Mexican named Pedro, play poker. One man is discovered cheating, and is shot dead by Pedro, who is wounded as he attempts to escape. Pedro is followed home by the local sheriff, who proves the next victim of Pedro's quick temper and pistol. Pedro's wife, Juanita, is thrown into jail, but he manages to break her out. They head for the border, unaware that a posse is waiting for them.

Lt. Following an operation that restores her sight, Margaret recognizes her husband as her benefactor and realizes that she loves him.

Looking through the window of a little Northern Woods church John Carver watches Nan, the woman he once loved become the wife of Julio Cumberland, the most prosperous citizen in the village. Julio reacts to this aggressively attacking Dick and leaving him unconscious. Returning to his hometown, Bill Duncan conceals his identity due to a longstanding feud with the Flynne family. He is soon found out and arrested for the murder of rancher Red Flynne. Flynne's estate is bequeathed jointly to his foreman Rolfe McPherson and his daughter Helen. Helen believes her father wished her to marry Rolfe, unaware that he plotted the murder. Clued in by the housekeeper of Rolfe's guilt, Bill escapes and pursues Rolfe who has kidnapped Helen and is headed for the Mexican border. Bill comes to the rescue, brings the villain to justice, and wins Helen.
