The Trabant - a cult object and symbol of a whole generation . On November 7, 1957 the pilot production of the Trabant P50 left the workshops. The state-owned enterprise , Sachsenring automobile works in Zwickau produced over 3 million Trabant until 1991 which traveled the roads of the DDR for decades.

A snack bar owner smokes with his Muslim neighbor in the stairwell of their apartment building at night. Her husband is his good friend. They draw closer to one another as the nights go on and look out over the city to the dark satellites, the brutalist concrete buildings on the outskirts of the city - relics of the GDR past. A security guard watches over Objekt 95, a satellite town with a residential complex which many foreigners call home. While on patrol at night, he gets to know a young Ukrainian woman who fled her home country when the war broke out. He wants to protect her, while his friend, the “old security guard”, radios to him from an abandoned Russian barrack night after night. A woman from the train cleaning service drinks in a train station bar after her night shift. There, she meets a hairdresser. The two of them become friends and spend many nights together in the station. Every night, her desire grows even greater for this woman who is exactly as lonely as she is.

In July 2007, a three-member expedition set off in a Trabant along the Silk Road to the deserts of Central Asia. The odometer of the small yellow Trabant has clocked up 15,000 kilometers. Half of Europe and most of Central Asia have disappeared beneath its wheels. After six weeks spent in its cramped interior, Dan Přibáň, Vladislav Růžička, and Jan Martin Kozel traveled through Central Europe, the Balkans, Turkey, Iran, and Turkmenistan, before turning west again in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, and returning home via Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine. 15,000 kilometers is a very long journey, during which many details can be lost.

Brigitte, Carola and Susi can hardly believe their luck. They have hit the jackpot and won a brand new Trabi! Unfortunately, none of the three have a driving license. So they quickly agree to sell the car. Soon there are more interested parties than the three ladies would like and disagreements about who will be the lucky new owner. Plumber Oskar Zahl promptly completes Brigitte's bathroom renovation because he thinks he has a chance of getting the car. Carola hopes that her new flame, choir singer Anastasius Vogel, will buy the Trabi for her. And Susi's fiancé wants to surprise his future wife with the car. The three car owners put all the applicants through their paces and ultimately make a wise decision.

A portrait of the era of "Red Terror" during the civil war that followed the Bolshevik revolution, The Seventh Companion offers a character study in General Adamov (Andrei Popov), a law professor in the tsarist army, who is incarcerated by the Bolshevik secret police along with many other members of the bourgeoisie. Finally released into the new world of the Soviet Union, the resigned officer finds that he has lost everything from his old life except a mantel clock that he carries through the night from place to place, until he ends up back where he started.

Dragan Wende has lived in Berlin since the '70s and has seen the city change through the years. His nephew comes to live with him as Dragan remembers the better days he lived as a Yugoslavian immigrant in a divided city.
