Hu Bayi and Fatty Wang had planned to go abroad with Shirley Yang. However, they were entrusted by Professor Chen to travel to the Coral Spiral with Mr. Ming to search for the Qin Emperor's Bone Mirror. They befriended Ruan Hei, Gu Cai, and Duo Ling on Coral Temple Island. Together, they set sail. One night, they were sucked into the underwater cave of Guixu.

The story of Candle in the Tomb revolves around a fragment of a secret manual passed down through generations. It is divided into several parts, including The Wrath of Time, The Lost Caverns of Longling, The Worm Valley of Yunnan, The Palace of Kunlun, and The Return to the South China Sea. The narrative follows Hu Bayi, Wang Pangzi, and Shirley Yang, three contemporary tomb raiders of the "Mojin Xiaowei" tradition. In order to uncover the ancient mystery of a vanished tribe, they employ feng shui techniques to interpret the veins of mountains and rivers, ultimately searching for the long-lost Dragon City palaces.

In the early 1940s, the war of resistance against Japan was in full swing, and it had reached a critical juncture. Crazy Japanese imperialism wreak havoc on the living power of the CCP's underground party and many revolutionary comrades sacrificed vigorously. Underground party member Xia Jia He was assigned by the organization to prepare to take the radio to Dalian. He was hunted and blocked by Japanese Police Officer Junji Aoki on the way. When there was nowhere to go, Xia actually met his first love, Wang Da Hua. Taking this as an opportunity, Da Hua and current husband Tang Quan Li were involved in this series of events. Da Hua Qing broke her family and wanted to save her husband, but could not change her husband's fate. Da Hua thus hated Xia Jia He, who had harmed her and lost her happy life, so she seized the radio station and did not return it to the other party.

The drama begins during China’s Reform and Opening Up era in the 1980s in Wenzhou, south China, an area renown for the emergence of many successful businesses. It charts the progress of a certain family headed by Zhou Wanshun, that lived in Rui’an village. The family had the opportunity for one of their two children to go to Italy to study. Wanshun (quite extraordinary at the time, and even today) chose to let his 13-year old daughter, Ayu, go to study rather than his 16-year-old son, son Maigou. Unbeknownst to his wife, Zhao Yinhua and son he sold their ancestral home cum cottage industry and spent all the proceeds in funding the Italy study trip. Although he had no business plan, he set out with his wife and son to Wenzhou City to “make money”, any which way. Together, they make it to Wenzhou City, while the daughter goes to Italy, each forging different paths, especially the children each persevering through challenges and hardship, achieving individual success.
